The South African Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge team has clinched promotion to Europe/Africa Group II in 2025 after going undefeated at the Nairobi Club last week.
Roxanne Clarke’s side lost just one match (an opening singles clash against Zimbabwe) and they were particularly impressive in must-win match-ups against Nigeria and hosts Kenya in the 1st to 3rd place play-offs.
South Africa skipper Clarke said: “I’m so proud of this team. We started this week with a goal to be promoted to Group II. I’m so grateful to Tennis South Africa for the support and to my players for giving everything they could this week.”
Nigeria got the better of Kenya to finish second, with the hosts ending their 2024 campaign in third spot.
At the other end of the event, Mauritius finished in 12th place meaning they will be relegated to Africa Group IV next season.
The final results were as follows:
1st - South Africa (promoted)
2nd - Nigeria
3rd - Kenya
4th - Zimbabwe
5th - Botswana
6th - Burundi
7th - Madagascar
8th - Tunisia
9th - Ghana
